Abstract
Built Prior to World War II with three grass strips, Kota Bharu Airport has been progressively developed during the ensuing years into the Major Commercial airport serving the state of Kelantan, and in particular thetown of Kota Bharu after which the airport serving the state of Kelantan,and in particularly the town of Kota Bharu after which the airport isappropriately named. Kota Bharu is not only the seat of the state government, but also the major industrial and religious center of the northeasternpart of Peninsular Malaysia. With a populatin estimated to be over 150,000,the Kota Bharu area is undergoing rapid economic growth, and further industrialization is expected within the next five years. It is apparent that theexisting airport facilities are inadequate in meeting the demand of the area's continued economic development.The purpose of the expanded airport, along with the new east-west Highway presently under construction, is to serve and stimulate commercialand industrial development of the state of Kelantan. The intend of the industrial development of the state of Kelantan. The intend of the expansion of KotaBharu Airport is to accomodate the largest air carrier aircraft in interaction service and to provide convinient air access for passengers and cargo tothe town and the entire region, which consists of the town center, lovelybeaches, an adjacent, 1,000 acre industric complex, and a large capable labour force.
