The goal of this design thesis is to develop a method of planning and designing student housing for a local university. It attempts to show not only the end result but also the process which has been undergone in order to arrive at the end result. Student housing was chosen as the thesis subject in order to further the findings of the user-surveys which were done for a dissertation during the Fifth year. As such, this design thesis is in effect a development of the dissertation. The approch taken is thus a two-stage process in which the bulk of the information gathering was done during the previous session and the actual development of the method and design was done during this session. Case studies on other local universities and collection of information from other source were also carried out during this session to provide additional information. In order to evaluate the hypothesis a design was proposed and the site for the new campus for the University of Technology Malaysia was used.
