In Place's exceptionally readable book, the first section, "Internet Basics," introduces Internet novices to electronic mail, file transfer, gopher, telnet, and Web browsers, using sample screens and easy-to-follow examples. This outstanding introduction could stand alone as a separate publication. The bulk of the volume is a directory of Internet sources of interest primarily to K-12 educators. The sections are divided by curriculum areas such as social studies and language arts, then into appropriate subdivisions. Within each subject section, resources are listed under the following headings: "World Wide Web," "Gopher," "Telnet," "Newsgroups," "Mailing Lists," "FTP," and "E-mail." The appendixes include references to supplementary materials such as how-to books and special projects of interest. The index organizes the various resources by type, enabling the reader to find all resources of a specific kind, e.g., newsgroups. The book is paperbound, as is appropriate for a guide that will need to be updated in a year or two. Because of its special focus, this book is a unique resource and is highly recommended, especially for libraries serving the needs of classroom teachers. M. M. Bohn University of Nebraska at Omaha
