Summary
Summary
The tools of operations research (OR)--optimization, simulation, game theory, and others--are increasingly applied to the entire range of problems encountered by civil and environmental engineers. In this groundbreaking text/reference, the world's leading experts describe sophisticated OR opplications across the spectrum of environmental and civil engineering specialties, addressing problems encountered in both operation and design.

Choice Review
This book is an excellent reference and guide for graduate students, research faculty, and practitioners who analyze large-scale systems. It is very comprehensive in its coverage of operations research and optimization techniques and provides an excellent discussion of the application of systems analysis to civil and environmental engineering problems. Aspects of water quality, management of hazardous waste, solid waste, and transportation problems are blended into a coherent body of work. The text does provide example problems; however, it would have been helpful if additional problems were provided due to the breadth of the subject matter. A clearly written, well-referenced contribution to the field of civil and environmental engineering. An excellent work for graduate students, practitioners, and faculty. R. P. Carnahan; University of South Florida
