Booklist Review

Although the fourth (1981) edition of Mind Drugs (Booklist 77:1442 Je 15 81, under Hyde) was unavailable for direct comparison, this latest collection of articles contains, according to the publisher, updated material on marijuana and a completely new chapter on cocaine (and crack), along with suggestions for further reading that include a number of titles published since 1981. The articles, contributed by Hyde as well as specialists involved in drug rehabilitation and research, are particularly concerned with drug abuse among teenagers. They examine use/abuse patterns of cocaine, marijuana, LSD, heroin, and alcohol, exploring such topics as social acceptance of a substance, medical properties, and physical and emotional effects. A special section rises to the challenge ``show me something better'' than drugs. An extensive glossary of alternate popular terms is appended as are numerous charts and tables. Index. Gr. 7-12. SZ. 613.8 Drugs / Drug abuse [OCLC] 86-11487
