This vital and welcome addition to the rehabilitation literature provides a comprehensive and authoritative treatment of the design and application of electronic devices currently used in rehabilitation. Topics include general concepts as well as devices for visual and auditory and tactile impairment, prosthetic replacement, and mobility aids. Each chapter is well written, is appropriately subdivided, has helpful diagrams, charts, and photographs, and contains a thorough bibliography as well as study questions. An excellent appendix lists the names and addresses of manufacturers of devices discussed in the text; a subject index is included. Fifteen experts in electrical, computer and biomedical engineering have collaborated most effectively, in an easy-to-read style and format, to present information with sufficient depth and clarity to be useful to students and faculty with different academic backgrounds and levels of sophistication. This book is clearly essential in any library for health care practitioners and engineers serving the need of the disabled.-R.E. Darnell, University of Michigan
