Choice Review

Holden, a consultant, presents a brief but very practical approach to the understanding of thermoplastic elastomers. He provides a concise but interesting history of elastomers and introduces the reader to the industrial significance of elastomers. Thermoplastic elastomers are classified by the author into groups such as block copolymers, crystalline multiblock copolymers, combinations of hard polymers and elastomers, ionomers, and polymers with core-shell morphologies. He presents a treatment of mixing technology based on the physical chemistry and type of compatibility and bonding. Frequently used formulas and techniques for blending and mixing with the predicted resulting properties could be very valuable to the blender or compounding chemist. The work has excellent diagrams and graphs to enhance the understanding of concepts.
