Abstract:
The Unit Commitment problem is well known in the power industry and has the potential to save millions of ringgit per year in fuel and related cost. Dynamic Programming has been recognized as an effective methodology for obtaining an optimal solution to this problem. In the present approach, a new index Commitment Utilization Factor (CUF) is used in conjuction with the classical economic index Average Full load Cost (AFLC) to determine the priority commitment orders are consistently better compared by the AFLC index alone. This approach can be easily implemented and can improve the performance withoutnoticeable penalty in computational requirements. The proposed method also employs a variable windows size according to load demand increments. . The proposed method also employs a variable window size according to load demand increments. The iterative process for the number of strategies saved in every stage is also incorporated to fine tune the optimal solution.
