In relation to the study undertaken, some basic knowledge of the theoretical aspects regarding the river, the estuary, and the coastal area, are briefly described. The main variables considered are the tides and the waves. Tidal gauging covering the full tidal cycle of Sg. Semerak was carried out and the data analysed to arrive at the upland discharge and tidal vlume. The available data on waves were used to compute the littoral drift. Wave refaraction diagrams were drawn to determine the refraction coefficients prior to that computation. Only those incident wave angles which are reliably effective onthe area are considered. a discussion on the possible measures or solutions that can be adopted to cope with the problems faced by the area studied are also described.
