Library Journal Review
If you want to create highly interactive software for the web, you have two distinct choices: Java or Director. Java requires that you know object-oriented programming, which has a pretty steep learning curve. Director requires that you understand a visual frame metaphor but calls on almost no programming skills. Macromedia has created an excellent interactive book/CD-ROM training environment for those who want to learn to use Director. This classroom-in-a-book approach also includes a demo version of Extreme 3-D and Multimedia Studio for more advanced students. About a year ago, Macromedia released AfterBurner, which is used to create shockwave files from Director movies that can be loaded onto web sites. Shockwave is covered briefly in Macromedia's title, but artists and multimedia designers will love Clarke's in-depth book/CD combination. (c) Copyright 2010.
