In the last 15 years, the networking of computers has grown at an exponential rate. While it was then common for people to carry data on disks back and forth between computers, data transfer can now be done within seconds across the world. It wasn't long before one network was connected to another network, which was then connected to another network. Eventually the Internet that we know today connected millions of computers around the world. Unfortunately, connecting all of these together also brings other issues with which everyone needs to be concerned. You often see and hear of security issues that can plague a company. Therefore, it is important that you take the extra steps in securing your computers, network resources, and data. This book is intended to prepare someone for CompTIA's Security+ certification exam. This book will not only prepare you for the exam, but will also make you a better administrator. Therefore, this book does go beyond the scope of the Security+ exam. This book already assumes that you know about PCs, how they work, and how to configure and troubleshoot them. It also assumes that you already know about network operating systems and networks. This book teaches you how to secure your network from unauthorized access by using routers and firewalls. It discusses how to secure major network operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Novell NetWare. It also discusses how to secure your major network applications/ services. Most of a11, it discusses the plans, procedures, and policies you need to have in place and the training you will need to help keep your network secure.
