Choice Review

Information technology (IT) standardization refers to agreements among companies or countries over hardware or software design to facilitate compatibility with similar products. Jacobs (RWTH Aachen University, Germany) here compiles a series of previously published articles in the field of IT standardization. Although most of the 15 articles can be found in databases available in academic or professional libraries, the book presents this research in an orderly fashion within a single resource, which is a real advantage for the reader. The articles have a strong business rather than technical focus. As over half of the contributors are European, there is a definite European emphasis, but in this field, most of the concepts can be transferred to the US. Contributors write in language that can easily be understood by nonexpert readers. The book provides a useful introduction to the concepts of standardization and includes biographies of all contributors. Valuable for institutions with IT-related programs including business, computer science, information sciences, and management information systems. Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduates through professionals. S.A. Patton Delta State University
