Choice Review
This small book by Genco and Sorce (both, Univ. of Palermo, Italy) briefly describes the state of the art in the combined field of pervasive, ubiquitous, mobile, and contextual computing. The work begins with a brief introductory chapter and a chapter on augmented reality. Chapters titled "Human-Computer Interaction" and "Disappearing Hardware" follow. Additional chapters discuss wireless technologies, positioning, security, and service discovery for pervasive computing. Unfortunately, the text is not very well written (poor sentence structure and vocabulary choices); additional editing would have improved readability. Because the book only covers the highlights of this topic without going into much depth, it is not a useful acquisition for academic libraries. However, it might help those not familiar with the field to obtain a brief overview of the fundamentals of pervasive computing and the involved disciplines. Summing Up: Optional. General readers. C.
