Abstract:
The objectives of the thesis is to study the deformation and stresss distribution on a pressure vessel subjected to two bar internal working pressure which is fabricated by APV HILLS & MILL (M) SDN BHD in Shah Alam for bewery purpose. Besides, fatigue analysis is also considered in order to predict the fatigue life of the vessel. The analysis is focussed on both heads, toriconical and torispherical head as they are considered to be the critical part in the vessel. The analysis are carried out by using COSMOS/M, a finite element computer software. In carrying out the analysis, only a portion of the vessel is modelled due to the symetrical shape of the structure. Thisapproach will save computer memory as well as run time needed to perform calculations. Once the results were obtained, varification of the result have to be performed. This can be done by using convergence test and comparing with design specifications. The convergence test is performed by plotting maximum stress vs. number of elements. One important fact that cannot be ignored is that this thesis has provided some informataion which may act as a guideline for pressure vessel fabricator especially for maintenance and trouble shooting.
