Abstract:
A complete logistics system covers the entire process of moving raw materials and input requirements from suppliers to plants, the conversion of the inputs into products at certain plants, the movement of the products to various warehouses or depots and the eventual delivery of these products to the final customers. The distribution activities of a firm comprise all movements and storage of goods "downstream" from plants. The last step in these movements (from distribution centers fo customers) which may be called local transportation or delivery is the most costly link of the distribution chain. For this step to be carried out effectively, the firm must approach the planning and the execution of its transportation activities in a rational manner in full view of the economies involved [2]. This project is a case study of the delivery network at KFC Food Processing Sdn Bhd, emphasizing on routing a fleet of vehicles for the distribution department. The aim of this project is to determine the effectiveness of the company's policy of having separate deliveries to the customers and the KFC Restaurants and the current practice of mixing the deliveries.
