Insights on management, leadership, and effective organizations, from the experts at the best business schools
Skills and strategies for leading any organization to success
. . . comprehensive, up-to-date, and better than ever
" When the speculative bubble burst in 2000, it exposed a weakness in many firms-too much financial engineering and too little leadership and management. I strongly recommend this book to those managers who want to learn how to run well-managed organizations capable of weathering the inevitable turbulence brought about by intensive competition and rapid changes in markets and technology. In one book, highly regarded experts in the field of management provide you with the essential lessons you will need to succeed as a leader and manager."
-Michael Beer, Cahners-Rabb Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus
Harvard Business School and author of The Critical Path to Corporate Renewal
"For managers to be effective in today's complex world, they need to be learners as well as leaders. In this remarkable volume, a world-class collection of professors provides a curriculum for continuous management learning that combines leading-edge theory with practical advice. Every manager -from supervisor to CEO-should keep this book close at hand."
-Ron Ashkenas, Managing Partner, Robert H. Schaffer & Associates
and coauthor of The Boundaryless Organization and The GE Work-Out

Choice Review
Cohen, along with 15 other leading business scholars who contribute chapters, offers this book for anyone without the time and resources to pursue a standard MBA degree. The work is designed to develop management skills and organizational knowledge about a wide array of present-day management issues at the MBA level. Chapters do a credible job of blending theory and practice as they address visionary leadership, team building, behavior, power and politics, negotiating strategy, careers, organizational design and effectiveness, human resources, self-management teams, diversity, and change. No single book or series (Wiley's "The Portable MBA Series" has six books out and ten forthcoming) can replace an earned classroom MBA degree, but this volume provides insights into managerial concerns and skills needed to deal successfully with today's dynamic global business environment. This guide's primary audience is managers, professionals, and business owners. Additionally, students and consultants will find the book insightful and helpful. This up-to-date resource is highly recommended for public and academic library business collections. J. W. Leonard; Miami University
Library Journal Review
This new addition to the ``Portable MBA'' series presents an executive management guide to issues such as teamwork, change, and leadership. Part 1 addresses personal and interpersonal needs such as leadership styles and methods, career development, and power and politics from ethical and strategic viewpoints. Part 2 examines needs at the organizational level, including organizational design, human resource management, and diversity. The book combines both conceptual and practical material. The diagnostic questions posed in the power and politics section provide an excellent tool for managers to assess the ethical implications of their actions. An impressive collection of experts contributed to this recommended volume.-- Grace Klinefelter, Ft. Lauderdale Coll. (c) Copyright 2010.
