Choice Review
Web Services Security Development and Architecture is an interesting compilation of various explorations of new and current security paradigms on the Web. Each chapter is an independent research article on an emergent section of interest related to the overall security topic. This work would be most useful in an academic setting as a resource for case studies or as a starting point in graduate research. It is refreshing to see a work on security that focuses more on being proactively defensive rather than countering existing threats; though ubiquitous solutions to the problems of XML artifact exchange and their forensic potential are not currently employed, it is helpful to learn about research that looks ahead to the state of affairs in the future. The gem of this book is the "Selected Readings" section, which is a concise but comprehensive overview of significant issues in Web security for those new to the discipline. Several survey chapters also provide valuable reading as an introduction to problems that currently exist. This book is a great start in turning the tide to a proactive stance on information security. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Graduate students, researchers, and faculty. T. D.
