Summary
Summary
Drawing on the vast experience of the most respected firm in the industry, Water Treatment Principles and Design is the first major reference on the science of water treatment in several decades. It covers both the practical and theoretical aspects of water quality analysis, treatment plant operation, and facility design, and provides detailed descriptions of processes such as coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, ion exchange, and adsorption. In addition, it offers one of the most extensive discussions ever published on design criteria, including component description and organization, aeration equipment, upflow clarifiers, disinfection, and materials.

Choice Review
This comprehensive state-of-the-art book on the principles and design of water treatment plants is a product of the collective experience of more than 50 professionals in an internationally known engineering consulting firm. The 26 chapters can be considered in four groups: basic information; process engineering and design; pollutant removal concerns; and plant design and operation. The initial chapters provide basic information on physical, chemical, and microbiological water quality, and on quality criteria and standards. Discussion follows of the theory and design of processes involving precipitation, coagulation and flocculation, gravity separation, filtration, adsorption, ion exchange and demineralization, gas transfer, disinfection, and residuals management. Pollutant removal requirements for water reuse, inorganics, organics, taste and odor, and corrosion are examined. A synthesis is given at the end of the book via a focus on predesign, plant siting, facilities design, plant hydraulics, process control, operations and maintenance, and construction and operating cost estimation. An excellent information source for upper-division and graduate students as well as for practicing engineers and water treatment professionals. Recommended for science and engineering libraries.-L.
