Choice Review

A new textbook expressly written to provide an introduction to control system engineering for an interdisciplinary group of engineering students. Mathematical detail is limited to allow greater emphasis on elementary concepts and analysis techniques. This book's level is ideal for senior undergraduate or first-year graduate students who have some prior familiarity with Laplace transforms, matrix theory, and linear, ordinary differential equations. Classical and state-space linear control analysis topics are included for both continuous and discrete systems. The material is clearly expressed, easy to understand, and replete with examples and problems. This book compares closely in style, level, and topics covered with other excellent works on this topic, such as D.K. Anand's Introduction to Control Systems (2nd ed., 1984), K. Ogata's Modern Control Engineering (CH, Jun '70), and O.I. Elgerd's Control System Theory (CH, Dec '67).-E.M. Aupperle, University of Michigan
