This ia an attempt to develop a guideline on space optimization of a fishing vessel (Purse Seiner) and to provide a procedure to analyze the space layout design. A new design technique space layout plans of a vessel. Thus, the proposed technique uses the fuzzy set theory in trying to provide the designer with an analytic procedure for making the space layout decisions. The utilization of fuzzy set theory is to achieve the general layout of space, whchallow the description of the main compartments of a vessel. In this project, there are several space layoout designs produced using the subjective apparoch of the designer. Instead of having an optimum layout, there are two criteria to be considered in the analysis : circulation and environmental. At the final stage of the analysis, the best layout which has the highest membership value, max ( ), for the two criteria mentioned above is chosen. From that, a guideline on space optimization is produced.
