Abstract:
This dissertation is undertaken with the primarily objective to trace out briefly the pattern of highrise office development in the city of Kuala Lumpur and seeks out to highlight some of the major factors which have contributed to the manifold increased in the number of such highrise structures. Within the framework of the objective set forth above, Chapter II attempts to identify and evaluate the factors which are responsible for the emergence of highrise office buildings in the city of Kuala Lumpur. After providing an overview of the historical development of the city to give a better understanding as to why dense development is concentrated in this area, it sets out to discuss on the relevance and the growth of such highrise buildings, followed by a section to review the impact of such structures on the urban environment. Chapter III deals with the analysis on the general locational criteria of office buildings and thereby to relate them to the existing spatial form of highrise offices in the city. In the fourth chapter, an evaluation on the major forces influencing the future prospect of highrise office development is made. A substantial part of the chapter is devoted to the analysis of the office space market i.e. on its demand and supply situation and the rental trend. The concluding chapter contains the summary on the findings of this study.
