This project is part of requirement for Masters by Coursework in surveyingand mapping. A project based on three-dimensional non-contact measurementwas chosen for the above purpose. There are two techniques used in thisproject. They are the Electronic Theodolite Measurenent System which is the main topic and the close-range photogrammetric technique whichis used as a supplementary to the above technique. The universal precisionMeasurement System (UPM) project was conducated in the School of Surveyingand Land Information at Curtin University with the cooperation of John Higham & Associates.A series of field tests were carried out on the UPM system to testsome of the available options, menu and techniques for the purposeof familiarisation, comparison, proving of accuracies etc. and toinvestigate the effectiveness of the system. Field tests using terrestrialphotogrammetric method were also carried out to investigate the field technique, data processing, accuracies, effectiveness and the possibilityof using camera as a supplement to the UPM system.The UPM system is an exciting new technology. In the autohors opinionthe result and knowledges obtained for the project will be of directuse in Malaysia. It is envisaged that University Technology of Malaysiathrough the author will be able to act in a negotiating and consultingcapacity to combine Malaysian induatrial opportunity with the presicion measuring technology form Western Australian.
