St John's School and Community College in Wiltshire made headline news this year. In challenging old ideas about homework and the National Curriculum, St. John's has developed its own integrated curriculum based on:

Nurturing Independent Thinkers is both a practical guide to the implementation of the 'St John's curriculum' and a realistic account of the journey taken by the staff and students involved.
Author Notes
Dr Mike Bosher was formerly the Deputy Headteacher at St John's School. He was the joint editor of the book 'Nurturing Independent Thinkers' published in 2005. Since retirement from Deputy Headship in 2007, he is involved in Initial Teacher Training as a part time member of the Education Department at Bath University.Dr Patrick Hazlewood, Headteacher at St John's School, Marlborough has long challenged the restrictive nature of the secondary curriculum and management practice. Leading pioneering work through the Opening Minds Project working with the RSA since 1999 he is currently a member of the Global Curriculum for the 21st Century steering Group
