Abstract:
Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP 11 ) has gradually become one of the dominant computerized production planning and control tools in the manufacturing industry. However, many companies that have attempted to implement computerized manufacturing software only out with confusion and frustration with the results. This project is concerned with the identification of problems and issues surrounding MRP 11 implementation. Literature studies, discussions with consultants and interviews with the MRP 11 users and vendores are conducted. Case studies were conducted at two companies, one which was implementing MRP 11 and the other which was already using the MAP 11 system; these studies have provided much insight on implementing and operating the MRP 11 systems. Besides, two MRP 11 softwares also evaluated. An implementation plan and procedure is put forward as a guidelines on systems implementation. It stresses that the MRP 11 system is a company wide system which needs the management support with well defined objectives, proper distributin of poles withtotal involvement, serious commitment and patience from the people involved, accurate data as well as continous education and gtraining in addition to sufficient budget and professional guidance. Just getting the software together with the hardware will rarely make the MRP 11 system work.
