Booklist Review

Definitely not a book for those with serious math phobia, Nordstrom's guide is a basic run-through of middle-grade math courses and early algebra. Brief introductions to the issues and topics are followed by chapters full of sample math problems and solutions. A good guide for anyone who needs an update on what is or should be taught at these grade levels but not for anyone with serious math problems; for the parent or teacher seeking to address such problems. ~--Denise Perry Donavin

Library Journal Review

This math review for parents of children in grades five to eight starts with self-tests containing about ten questions and then shows detailed solutions to problems in numbers and numeration, number theory, fractions, decimals and percents, geometry, prealgebra, and statistics. Tucked in among the problems are tidbits of advice about the math curriculum, teaching methods, and ways to help children who are foundering. This is a concise overview of the topics, with a glossary and reference tables offering additional help, but parents could probably learn as much by looking at their child's textbook.-Amy Brunvand, Fort Lewis Coll.
