Summary

Summary

Previous editions, published by Bellman, are cited in Sheehy. This first Gale edition provides detailed descriptions of some 2,600 sources of education-related financial aid available to US and Canadian students and professionals for study at all levels throughout the world. The descriptive listings are arranged alphabetically by administering organization; entries for the awards are listed alphabetically after the organization entries. Each entry contains contact and descriptive information. The first Gale edition of SFL has been completely revised, updated, and reorganized--every change either expanding coverage or enhancing access. Any who thought they didn't need this reference before would do well to reconsider now that it is in Gale's good hands. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

Library Journal Review

This directory provides information on over 2600 awards available to U.S. and Canadian students for study throughout the world. It includes loans, grants, fellowships, internships, work study programs, and awards and prizes offered by associations, corporations, religious groups, fraternal organizations, foundations, and companies. Financial aid programs sponsored by individual institutions are not included. Listings are arranged alphabetically by administering organization and describe the purpose, qualifications, selection criteria, funds available, and application details. A vocational goals index in chart format presents an overview of the general purpose of each award. The volume is cross-referenced by field of study, legal residence, place of study, special recipient, and organization and award indexes. This is the first edition published by Gale (previously from Bellman). It is similar in format and purpose to the College Blue Book, Scholarships, Fellowships, Grants, & Loans (Macmillan, 1991. 23d ed.), which covers private sources of awards. However, this publication covers private as well as national and state government-backed awards. A good choice for public and undergraduate college libraries.-- Barbara S.
