Choice Review
Primarily written for engineers, health officials, and managers, this comprehensive handbook reviews the history and significance of all major pollution problems and their solution. Regulatory approaches, monitoring, remediation, risk assessment, and pollution prevention are presented in nonmathematical language suitable for lawyers, reporters, and environmental advocates. Beginning with the premise that environmental regulations represent advances in the face of internationally ranked disasters, the authors then point to global warming and stratospheric ozone depletion as issues best dealt with through environmental diplomacy and international agreements. Subsequent sections of this book deal with air and water pollution; solid and hazardous waste management; miscellaneous environmental concerns; and management considerations. Appendixes list the national and state offices to call for assistance with hazardous waste control. Well organized and user friendly. Recommended for public and academic libraries. General; advanced undergraduate through professional. R. M. Ferguson; Eastern Connecticut State University
