Abstract:
'What makes a Museum environment sucessful', depicted from Architecture Magazine, issue, June 1989, reveals that the proper tone to a successful museum environment is changing from the dull space frontier into the more outgoing presentation of public regardless of age and has put the Museum for the public realm category. The next question that may arise is that 'How does the developing country cater for a self identity Museum far different from the Western establishment but at the same time fulfill the needs and requirements of a functional Museum?. To take this question into task, one must first be sincere and able to search the other part of a museum functional amenity that is so willing to project itself for the sake of the country's identity and not jeapordizing the museum role in society. It is also fundamental to state that the image and identity of a building does not rely on the building facade but also the realm of familiar activity, setting, environment, in so many ways that it could be expressed. The task for a local architecture may be proceeded in a more convincing manner by inducing activities into the realm. In this case of the proposed Sabah State Art Gallery, the task shaal be to introduce the functional part in coeherence with a familiar activity. This way the introduction of a new museum or art gallery identity would not be too foreign to the society. The success may come in many forms, as one places oneself into the pace of locality, scent, sight and feelings. This approach may march into the architecture of our locality and the march shall be assessed by the inducement of elements, form, colour, texture, activities, structure, services and infrastructure. One certainty is that with this approach one may lose out or gain in as much success, as one may expect.
