Booklist Review
Winters' follow-up to her debut, Plum Girl (2002), is centered around Reese Brock, a 27-year-old whose younger sister is about to get married. Her older sister, Angela, has already walked down the aisle, but Reese can't help feeling the natural order of things has been subverted when her sister Ally announces her engagement. Reese is nowhere close to taking the plunge; her sort-of boyfriend, Kenneth, a fellow Ph.D. student, can hardly be bothered to pick up the phone to call her. Work and school are equally unsatisfying and demanding, and all Reese really wants to do is write. Into Reese's hectic life walks Brian Doren, whom she kissed on New Year's Eve two years ago. He still makes Reese swoon, but everything from his ex-fiancee's desire to reconcile to Kenneth's sudden dogged pursuit of Reese seems to be getting in between the star-crossed pair. Fun and sexy, Winters' second novel generates plenty of heat between the two attractive lead characters. --Kristine Huntley Copyright 2003 Booklist
