Fully describes the relational data model approach, illustrating its use as a powerful tool with which to develop applications-oriented structures as well as practical structures for an entire organization. The design methodology presented here is successfully used today by numerous companies internationally to implement application-oriented and enterprise-wide data models. Several of these successes are discussed in this book, as well as ways in which the data dictionary can be used not only as a documentation tool but as a design tool; to this end, the book suggests guidelines concerning appropriate dp-staff organization, the tasks of data administrators, and the skills and education required by a dp team.
