Summary

Summary

The 25th edition of the bible of the mechanical industries. The speeds and feeds section has been revised, updated and expanded to include new materials, more cutting tools, and tool life estimates. The welding section has been rewritten to incorporate recent developments, the numerical control section has been expanded and rearranged to facilitate use, and logarithm and trigonometry tables have been reinstated. New to this edition are sections on bolt tightening torques, motion control sections, ISO 9000, lasers, dividing heads, bandsaws (including speeds and feeds), electrical discharge machining, retaining rings, machinability of wood, and collets. In addition, all the practical information and data has been reviewed and updated where necessary.

Booklist Review

For 75 years, this has been the bible for the mechanical engineer, designer, manufacturing engineer, drafter, toolmaker, machinist, skilled mechanic, and students in engineering colleges, technical institutes, and vocational schools. The latest edition has been completely reorganized and offers several expanded features, including an all-new section on numerical control, updated electric-motor standards, a revised metals section reflecting new alloy and number designations, and current information on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Other sections discuss mathematics, strength of materials, geometric drafting procedures, and many more topics critical to the metalworking industries. Because so much information is condensed into a single volume, the handbook must be primarily a reference work rather than a textbook. As a ready-to-use guide, it continues to provide step-by-step examples illustrating the application of formulas--arranged in the best sequence for use with a calculator or computer--as well as tables and charts offering working data for immediate use.
