Summary

Summary

This monograph presents the research work carried out in studying the use of air staging technique in a fluidized bed combustor as an effective alternative to control and reduce the emissions from the combustion of industrial and agricultural waste. Fluidized bed combustion has been recognized as a technology that can generate power from solid wastes and more importantly it has been known as a suitable combustion system for biomass. This monograph highlights the influence of applying air staging technique in reducing the gaseous emissions from a fluidized bed combustor. In this investigation, palm shell is used as the source of fuel and silica sand as the inert sand material. This monograph describes the results obtained and the methodology adopted. The outcome of this investigation has shown that the use of the air staging technique has resulted in the reduction of the emission of NOx of more than 50%. This significant reduction is a clear indication of the prospect of using this technology for sustainable management of the environment and a better future for our palm oil industry.
