Campbell-Allen and Roper are recognized authorities on material behavior characteristics of concrete and the impact of these characteristics on the performance of reinforced concrete structures. They look at these problems as engineers rather than material scientists, and address the important factors influencing the durability and serviceability of concrete structures along with the maintenance and repair of deficient or deteriorating structures. This very well written book assembles and discusses much useful information for engineers involved in construction. A chapter on corrosion of reinforcement is particularly informative. Figures are predominantly line drawings and charts, some of which are rather sketchy, but even these are sufficient to inform. Each chapter concludes with a bountiful list of European, North American, and Australian literature. With the deteriorating state of the infrastructure, books such as this must become required reading by the appropriate engineers. The book is unique in its coverage; no other current book addresses the breadth of problems from the same viewpoint.
