This Special Project is a Study of Urban Renewal is a special attention paid to the needs and implementation aspects. To conduct this Study, Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur has been the chosen Study Area. This study attempts to analyse the need for the renewal process with reference to the existing environment of Petaling Street, in terms of landuse, property values and the New Economic Policy. The study will also bring out the importance of Comprehensive Urban Renewal and the necessity to turn Petaling Street into a permanent Pedestrian Mall. While discussing the implementation of Urban Renewal, the study will put forth 2 suggested methods of implementation. The problems likely to arise will be highlighted. Finally a cost-benefit analysis will be carried out. A conclusion is then drawn as to the viability of the renewal process to the Study Area and the likelihood of success if carried out.
