Summary

In addition to all of the 3,500 illustrations of the original edition as well as its 25,000 fully indexed English terms, the Multi-Lingual Edition includes all terms in Spanish, French, and German. Each entry has been prepared by specialists and verified by linguists in each language. For anyone who speaks or is learning Spanish, French or German -- or for anyone of these nationalities learning English -- the Multi-Lingual Edition is simply indispensable.

Choice Review

This is a wonderful reference tool for anyone needing "a great number of technical terms from a wide range of fields." It claims to have 3,500 full-color illustrations and more than 25,000 terms in four languages (English, French, German, and Spanish). The high-quality, computer-produced illustrations are easy to understand, with the most commonly used terms listed in each language. The table of contents provides a good subject breakdown of illustrations, and the pages have colored tabs to make finding sections easier. Separate indexes for each language provide access to the illustrations by subjects and terms. Corbeil was one of the compilers of the English edition of this visual dictionary (1992) and is well known in the field of foreign language dictionaries. This reasonably priced, practical dictionary should be in all libraries supporting foreign-language programs or populations speaking any of these languages. Librarians acquiring this excellent resource will get a minimum of three reference books for the price of one. C. Pracht; Southeast Missouri State University
