Choice Review
A prerequisite for using this book is a complete knowledge of the C language. Given that, the next step would be for the author to provide an orderly transition to the new ideas of object-oriented programming. As in any pedagogical endeavor, the vehicle chosen is the key to eventual success; in this book, the author's choice of vehicle is not well structured and lacks a clear scheme for achieving his goals. Unfortunately, the book reads like all too many computer manuals. Although the goal of combining object-oriented programming with expert system technology is noble, the author's stilted style and presumption of prior knowledge limit the book's effectiveness. It also suffers from poor editing and numerous errors. Despite the timeliness of the topic, this is not recommended either for the individual reader or for purchase by a library. B.
