Abstract:
This project has been carried out to design an industrial aerodynamic wind tunnel for the use of model testing in the proposal Aeronautical Engineering Laboratory of University of Technology Malaysia. The scope of this project covered the conceptual design, design justification and structural design of the fan and test section. The conceptual design has been carried out with reference to the emphirical methods suggested by current researchers. Flow modelling of components spanning from the settling chamber to the test section, has been carried out by FLUENT which estimates the flow quality of the components simulated, thus, justifies their conceptual designs. Finally, the structural designs are mainly based on the British Code Design Procedure of BS 5950. An overall layout and specifications of the wind tunnel has been produced from the conceptual design. The flow modellings FLUENT have depicted that the conceptual design is satisfactory. Finally, the structural designs have produced two drawings of the fan section and the test section respectively
