Summary

Summary

This multimedia CD introduces you to high-fidelity aerospace vehicle simulations. You interact with aircraft and missile simulations, proceeding from simple ballistic trajectories to controlled and guided flight. You have the option to work either in FORTRAN, C++, or both. Assuming familiarity with aerospace systems, the 13 training units teach flight mechanics, aerodynamics, propulsion, seekers, guidance and control, with illustrations chosen from the provided simulations. You follow in the footsteps of the expert, building, analyzing, and verifying every step until its completion. This electronic tutorial follows the publication of Building Aerospace Simulations in C++. Both complement the textbook Modeling and Simulation of Aerospace Vehicle Dynamics in the AIAA Education Series. To teach yourself the fundamentals of six degrees of freedom simulations all you need is this CD, the textbook, the Microsoft C++ and HP FORTRAN compilers, and the Microsoft Explorer 6 browser. Included is a link to the CADAC Web site where you may apply for the free CADAC CD-ROM with eight prototype simulations and plotting programs. If you lack C++ prowess, the first CD will fill the void. You will be submerged into a total learning experience with 111 video and audio clips, and over one thousand hyperlinks connecting the 702 training charts. A total of 293 hands-on exercises will help you explore the computer models of aircraft and missile components and check your progress against the provided solutions. You have several options. (1) Familiarization with the CADAC FORTRAN and C++ simulations by just following the primers; (2) experimenting with the missile; (3) working with the aircraft; or (4) best of all, exploring all four simulations in FORTRAN and C++. Students at the University of Florida have tested all parts of this CD and acquired a thorough understanding of six degrees of freedom aerospace simulations while earning three academic credits.
