This collection contains 17 papers focusing on the reconstruction of the west breakwater at Port Sines, Portugal. This case history presents the design of a rubble mound structure in deep water and subjected to deep water wave attack. It is a good example of the planning, design, construction, and monitoring of an important and complex structure. Papers represents contributions from geologists, planners, surveyors, contractors, laboratories, and civil engineers and is a significant milestone in the development of marine facilities in very deep water.
