Abstract:
Introduction : Malayan Banking is one of the largest monetary institution in the Country. It has branches all over the region both locally and internationally. Its rapid development in this short duration is mostly contributed not only by the trading and business sector, but also by the staffs motivating power and hardwork. In initiating and upgrading the staff motivation toward their quality of work in establishing the bank's peformance in its services, has been the primary goal of Maybank. One of the way in achieving and maintaining the goal is to erect a sports complex for the staff. The scomplex not only would symbolise on achievement which the workers would take ptide in, but would also create a close liason and cooperative spriring among the staff at all levels without discriminating their age, race and religion, hence would further enhance and uopgrade the company's image and stability. 2. The bank however face serious problem in acquiring recreational facilities for the staff. Existing facilities for e.g. in Bangsar, Petaling jaya and Shah Alam could not accomodate the increasing needs of the sports enthuasist expecially for the serious athletes (representatives of the bank and the nation) which needs all year training. To top it all the fees rate in increasing too. 3. With this realisation Maybak is working into erecting a sports complex which is complete and accessible to the staffs without any complication. OBJECTIVES : (i) To initiate and to encourage recreational activities as well as to provide the recreation nees of the Malayan Banking staff in Malaysia especially in the surrounding area e.g. Kuala Lumpur. (ii) To provide a complete recreational facilities sufficiently. (iii) To house all the facilities and activities in one centre, so as to create a sporting spirit among the staff, thus avoiding a attitute among the staff at all level in intereacting with one another. Hence, a close liason is formed among the staff. (iv) To act as the centre for any games preparation for any oncoming events or competition. (v) To act as the host and as the venue for any sporting events from the inter-department games to intra banks games. THE PROPOSED SITE : A 12 acres site situated in the Instituanal Area of Bandar Baru Bangi has been allocated for the proposes project. Presently no visible form of construction is being undertaken except for the earthwor. So far the Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor has completed part of the area infrastructure e.g. road, drainage, water supply and locating the hydrant. SPACE REQUIREMENT:- Upon completiin this completion this complex would contain:- i) Outdoor sport areas which includes this facilities : a) tennis courts; b) basketball, sepaktakraw, and volleyball courts; c) rugby, hockey and football field; d) olympics standard track fields. ii) Grand stand; iii) multi-purposed indoor stadium for indoor games and other social activities and events; iv) Swimming pool and its associated facilities; v) Dormitories for sports participants; vi) Restaurant; vii) Car Park. DESIGN APPROACH AND SOLUTION : In the design approach the function and image of the building have been put forward as the major criteria to be taken into consideration; (i) Function of the complex means; easy distribution of the sports activities facilities, facilities are easily recognised, close to each other in walking distance or space relationship and clear circulation segregation between players and spectators. (ii) Image means the physical building design should harmonise with the surrounding site yet it should also be able to reflect the building as a sports complex. Consideration will be given on methods of construction, structural system and materials used. A low profile and sprawling development is chosen due to the nature of the surrounding site development and to blend with the rural landscaping in order to achieve a comfortable yet sporty environment. As circulation system us concerned the major pedestrian movement and vehicular movement will be segregrated and due to the different nature of the sports facilities, a distribution plaza is proposed to link the facilities physically and visually.
