Abstract:
INTRODUCTION : MALAYSIAN AIRLINES has proposed a new training complex due to its organization expansion. The new training complex will house all MAS training related to aviation, computer center and the administration offices. The role of this proposed training complex : (i) To ptovide training for new recruits of MAS. (ii) To provide training facilities to MAS staff. (iii) To administer the running of MAS function and activities as it will house the new computer center. This training complex plays an important role of providing training for new and exiting MAS staff to ensure that their team is at their best at all times. This training complex also will cut down the cost of sending the staff for overseas training. Hence this trainaing complex will be equipt with the up-to-date equipments. This training complex also will be the biggest in this region. SITE : the proposed site will be located on a 3.5 hectares land situated at Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The site is relatively flat and bounded by three roads. Generally, site is zoned residential and land in the immediate viccinity is still undeveloped. GENERAL SPACE REQUIREMENT : a. Administration Offices and Computer Center; b. Academic and Training Center; c. Accomodation Block. SPECIAL SPACE REQUIREMENT : a. Cabin Crew Training; b. Flight Safety Trainng. AIM : To produe a design proposal for a training complex which is efficient, comfortable and function as a learning center. SCOPE OF THESIS : Due to the complexity of the project, the proposed design is reduced in only three main aspects; planning and zoning of the whole complex, detailed study will be done on the Flight Safety Training block and to solve the building services requirements. METHODOLOGY : The thesis methodology followed in the thesis reseasrch is shown in figure 2. DESIGN APPROACH : In this design, the Problem Solving approach is used. The design will look into details of the user requirement, aesthetics and suitability of the design to new technology. Pronlem Solving Strategy : In order to achieve the ibjectives tated, there are four factoprs to be considered : a. Human; b. Space Planning; c. Building Systems; d. Equipments. After a detailed study, the factors were rearranged to follow the priority of the design problems. DESIGN SOLUTIONS : In the final design process, priority us given to the design criteria: a. Building Services: Define, organize and optimize first the services distribution pattern as an approach to the spatial layout. b. Structure: To determina a structural system that can integrate and blend with the building services system. The basic structure system has a 8m x 8m module to accomodate the car parking in the basement. c. Colour: The colour chosen are those associated with the MAS image, that is blue, red and green. d. Form: The module created from the criteria is refleted in the elevation and facade treatment. The overall massing considers the site context. 3. Planning of Spaces: i) Space distribution and grouping is done in relation to the funtion and services rendered. ii)The circulation and segregation pattern of each grouping determines the type and quality of space required that is public or private. SPECIFIC STUDY : Specific study is being done at the Flight Safety Training Block, by elaboration on the building services.
