Choice Review
A comparatively succinct textbook introduction to computer information storage and retrieval methodologies, whose scope ranges from the minute (a review of data elements) to the massive (an examination of relational database theory). Progression through the spectrum of topics that lie between is reasonably ordered so that for the novice, grasping subsequent topics is facilitated by those that precede them. Yet, for the more knowledgeable individual, each chapter can be meaningfully absorbed as a unit, sans prerequisites. To demonstrate the various concepts explored, suitable examples are chosen that aid in making determinations about the appropriateness of each method relative to a given set of problem parameters. Frequent interjections of Pascal language statements to depict programming approaches to a given data manipulation technique may be deeply appreciated by some, while others may consider the inclusion of programming segments an unnecessary diversion from the presentation of pure data theory. Throughout, the material is liberally sprinkled with effective schematics. The index, however, is too sparse, as is the bibliography. For upper-division undergraduates. E.
