Computerized informative item banking is the first concrete step in our continous and long term effort to integrate microcomputers in the field of educational testing, measurement and evaluation, especially in the schools. The initial result of this is a microcomputer software for item banking called BITEM. Our effort is in response to and thus in line with the objective of the Ministry of Education towards a school based assessmentsystem and an improvement in the educational evaluation system. The authors will discuss the basic features and characteristics of the informative item banking software, BITEM, for example: (1) the database feature, (2)the graphics feature, (3)the 'action-oriented research' potential feature. The authors will also edentify and discuss the ptential target users and uses of such a software. Such potential users include teachers, educational institutions and departments, and researchers.
