Abstract:
The ability of current CAD systems to respond intelligently to users is very limited. A number of research attempts have been made to link CAD packages to other software with the aim of maximising efficiency and productivity. CAD, for example, has been linked successfully to bill of quantities software therefore assuring perfect data transfer from one package to another. Nowever, the issues of analysing CAD drawings and distinguishing their various components for further analysis have not yet been addressed. This project is concerned with the creation of a framework by which dynamic data interchange can take place to interpret intelligently the components of a drawing. In order to achieve its objectives, this study must : - Examine the AutoCAD database structure in detail and propose a coding mechanism for the efficient extraction of drawing data. - Develop software using the AutoLisp programming language to recognise the components of a drawing. - Test this software by developing an external application to make use of the previously recognised components.
