This is the right book at the right time by the right author! There are a number of existing books that deal with the analysis of digital filters, but this is the first that thoroughly addresses the important area of design. It does so using a conversational style that should be very well received by students. Williams substitutes intuition for heavy mathematics. Although this approach is carried to extremes in a few places, students will appreciate the approach. Many statements and assumptions are made to simplify the approaches: although the assumptions may not always be rigorous, the results justify this approach. The text contains numerous examples; the writing style is excellent; the reference list is adequate; and, with the exception of a few unfortunate printing errors, the production quality of the book is very good.
