The main objective of the project is to design a control algorithm for a six pulse converter dc drive. A computer simulation of such a drive is to be developed using experimental data where necessary rather than assuming idealised motor characteristics. The theory and operation of a six pulse converter is presented. Analytical expressions for the mathematical model of a six pulse converter dc drive are developed for simulation purposes by an analytical method. The state space model of a separately excited dc motor is developed and simulated by numerical methods. The simulation of a closed loop system of a six pulse converter dc drive is achieved by numerical methods incorporating both state space and transfer function techniques.
