Summary
For designers of electronic circuits and systems, suggests that keeping noise reduction in mind from the very beginning of the design process is a good way to avoid expense and frustration down the road. Fish (electronic engineering, U. of Wales, Bangor) treats intrinsic noise and interference from external sources together, on the basis that the problems caused by both are similar, and that one must be kept in mind while dealing with the other. He explains successful techniques for the commonly encountered noise problems. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

A comprehensive presentation of electronic noise encountered in electronic systems. Intrinsic noise and external noise due to electric and magnetic fields and mechanical and thermal disturbances are considered. Described in the first four chapters are the general definition and types of noise, mathematics for random signals analysis for the study of noise in electronic systems, influence of design of equipment on electrical and nonelectrical noise, and intrinsic noise resulting from circuit design. Chapters 5 and 6 treat the methods of noise circuit analysis and noise models. Noise measurement techniques, computer methods for noise analysis using the SPICE circuit simulation software, and the design of low noise systems are discussed in the remaining three chapters. The material is treated in sufficient detail in an interesting, logical, and readable format. Many illustrations and diagrams are provided, and references are found at the end of each chapter. The last part of the book has exercise problems, appendixes, a bibliography, and answers to the exercises. A useful work for undergraduate seniors, graduate students, and professionals. K. K. Surti; University of New Haven
