This work is the latest volume in the "Series in Biomedical Engineering," an official publication of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering. The editors have assembled a very distinguished and diverse array of people to present true-to-life depictions of the opportunities--and responsibilities--that await those who pursue careers in biomedical engineering and biotechnology. The 85 authors have varied educational backgrounds (e.g., PhD, MD, MBA), representing diverse industries and pursuits (from agricultural implements and pharmaceuticals to Google, Congress, government regulation, and academe). They represent many organizations, such as the FDA, NIH, UN, WHO, and more. Two authors are Nobel laureates. The 71 chapters cover the full gamut of career opportunities from the traditional (e.g., university research, industry, medicine, entrepreneurship, intellectual property) to innovative alternative careers (e.g., finance, regulatory affairs, energy, politics, expert witness, sales, writing).
