Abstract:
Pressure drop test forms a part of several sets of standard specification accompanied by a particular guidelines of constructing a relevant testing apparatus for fitting, to ensure that any joints constructed are fully reliable and proven strong. Research conducted is entirely based on the standard produced by the British Gas Corporation under Specification BCG/PS/PLS/2,BCG/PS/PL2/4, BCG/PS/PL2/6, BCG/PS/PL3/1 and BCG/PS/F2 which predominantly covers most of the Mechanical and Medium Density Polyethylene fittings used in a medium or low pressure distribution network. The project conducated focussed on the construction of a computer programme with intention to simplify and rationalize the process of test data analysis and data handling system. The program is constructed using a combination of Fortran 77 and Gino-F which are available at the main-frame unit. A similar program is also developed to be used with a personel computer, constructed with the appropriate combination between Fortran 77 and IBM Plotting system. The work also carried out to determine the pressure losses across a straight Polyethylene pipe for various sizes ranging from 20 mm to 180 mm outside diameter (OD), with the purpose of evaluating and comparing the differences of pressure losses acrossfitting with corresponding pressure losses in similar outside diameter. Therefore, the losses occur across fitting could be expressed as an equivalent losses of straight pipe, in terms of equivalent pipe length. Details of this work are presented in chapter 5. It is hoped that the developed packaged could be practically applied to a fitting pressure drop test data, as well as simplifying the analysis of fitting performance for pressure drop test with greater capabilities of process analysis.
