Jodidio, a graduate of Harvard University who has published more than 40 volumes on architecture and design, here individually and concisely presents 100 international architectural projects in the modern style. Of the 18 U.S.-based projects (e.g., The Tyson House in northwest Arkansas), 11 are in California (e.g., the Collins Gallery & Residence in West Hollywood). Each design is given a display of between two to four pages, with color photography (300) predominating as the demonstrative medium. Black-and-white line drawings detail the architecturally significant portions of the design. Most of the designs feature accompanying explanations presented in a side-by-side format in both English and French. In his introduction, Jodidio discusses the genesis of this volume as well as the reasoning behind each project's inclusion. An index of the 55 architects who designed and built these extensions and renovations concludes the work. Though the brevity of this lavishly illustrated volume's overall coverage limits its utility as a professional work, it is accessible to the sophisticated amateur and would be useful in large public or academic design or architecture collections.-Alex Hartmann, Delgado Community Coll., New Orleans (c) Copyright 2010.
